Beauty, from heart to hand

Handcrafted

By Martine Iliano

The concept of mingei was developed in the mid-1920s in Japan by a philosopher and aesthete Yanagi Soetsu. It was a conscious attempt to distinguish ‘folk craft’ from ‘higher’ forms of art. This concept inspired Martine Iliano throughout her life as an artist. She studied Chinese painting at the academy of art in Beijing. In Hong Kong and Singapore she mastered ceramics while devoting time to Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangements). Back in Belgium she graduated as ceramic artist at the academy of fine arts in Mechelen and as a silversmith in Antwerp. Martine opened her own studio in the historical center of Mechelen.

The studio

Martine’s work is driven by her love for art and craft. She combines freely her own made beads (ceramic/porcelain, lampwork and paper beads) with beautiful beads, pearls and gems from all over the world, producing each time a unique handmade piece. Above all, Martine seeks a gracious harmony of colors, textures and materials with a modern touch, allowing you to shine on every occasion!

My love for
Japanese beads

Miyuki beads symbolize the rich cultural heritage of Japan. Renowned for their highest quality, brilliance, and uniform shape, these beads play a significant role in Japanese culture and tradition.
The diverse colors of Miyuki beads are a boundless source of inspiration. Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted by me with love and passion.

Small treasures

Through creation, we bring our dreams to life

As a ceramist, I am passionate about ceramics and use ceramic beads as a central theme throughout my entire collection. Additionally, I design and create my own porcelain beads. The unique beauty of ceramic beads stands out in my jewelry, either as a highlight or a detail.
